ASPIRE!
The Spring 2025 season is now upon us! It’s the start of a New Year and, after a break over Christmas, we’re always eager to get back to our choir family and to the joy of making music together.
REGISTRATION happens over the first 4 weeks of the season (Jan. 15, 22, 29 and Feb 5th). We begin sign-up at 6:30 pm, in the foyer just outside the Band Room at Kootenay River Secondary School (223 - 18 Ave S, Creston), and REHEARSAL begins immediately following, at 7:00 pm. Enter the school by the south door and the Band Room is immediately on your right.
It’s free as a trial period for new members for those first four weeks of practice (through Feb 5th). The seasonal fee of $65 is due by the end of that period. As well, you’ll find your practice tracks (coming soon) at the NEW MUSIC tab of this site. All the songs are broken down into the 4 parts – soprano, alto, tenor and bass – so you have recordings to sing along with when you’re practicing at home. For new singers, our director (Laura Johnson) will help you figure out which section to start out in, if you don’t know what part you sing.
Our Spring theme this year revolves around the notion of ASPIRE – the idea that our future as individuals and our future as mankind depends on striving, reaching and pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zones, pushing ourselves to think in new ways and see with new perspectives. And also the things or people that motivate us to that kind of drive. Come join us!
The Blossom Valley Singers is a community choir, active in Creston since the mid-80s. We’re a non-audition group, open to all who want to sing. Some ability to carry a tune is preferred. Some ability to understand sheet music is helpful for you, but not essential … we’ll help. So, what IS essential? A love of singing. A willingness to learn and commit some effort to this music-making. And the ability to “play well with others”. COME JOIN US!
NOTE: As we learned from COVID, group singing is one of the most efficient methods of sharing all manner of airborne viruses and other diseases, and we encourage vaccination as one means of reducing your risk. And that goes for masking, too. While we were all masking, cold and flu numbers all over Canada were markedly reduced. However, masking and vaccination are by personal choice as each of us sees fit, to manage our own personal level of risk, and we encourage anyone who comes down with anything contagious to stay away until their symptoms cease. Be aware that, in the event of any health threat, we will adhere to provincial guidelines.
